May 23, 2007 - M.T.H. Electric Trains has begun shipping its first Proto-Scale 3-2 equipped diesel locomotives outfitted with scale wheels and fixed pilots. The scale wheel SD70ACe diesel is fully equipped with Proto-Sound 2.0 and M.T.H.ﾒs patented Proto-Scale 3-2 technology that provides operators with the ability to run the locomotive on 2-rail or 3-rail track and under AC or DC power.
Like their hi-rail wheeled brethren, the scale wheel versions feature all the sounds and features found on M.T.H.ﾒs normal Premier line diesel engines, including speed control, operating smoke and high-quality digital sound. Unlike the hi-rail models, scale wheel models are configured with fixed pilots and include mounting pads for separately sold Kadee-style O scale couplers. Scale wheeled versions do not come equipped with O gauge Proto-Couplers like those found on M.T.H.ﾒs hi-rail models.
While the fixed pilot eliminates the ﾓgapﾔ between frame and pilot that many scale enthusiasts find distracting on 3-rail hi-rail models, scale-wheel locomotives require a much wider radius curve in order to operate. However, 2-rail and 3-rail operators with wide curves can run these locomotives with either the scale wheel sets installed or with optionally available hi-rail wheels sets. The Proto-Scale 3-2 trucks can be quickly changed over to either type of wheel in just a few minutes - just another example of how M.T.H.ﾒs latest diesel locomotives are quickly proving themselves as the most versatile diesel locomotives currently available on the market today.
