August 1, 2007 - With the release of the Coors Light Silver Bullet train set last month, M.T.H. Electric Trains has uploaded a new version of the DCS software code for owners of the Silver Bullet set who wish to directly activate the set's reefer car functions using the DCS Remote's softkeys. This software upgrade, version 3.11, does not contain the new software features promised in the 2007 Volume 2 catalog released last April. M.T.H. continues to finalize the new DCS features promised in the 07V2 catalog and anticipates delivering those features later this year.

Owners of the Silver Bullet can activate the reefer car features via the PFA functions built into the DCS remote control or with any transformer equipped with a whistle and bell button. It is not necessary to upload DCS software version 3.11 into your DCS remote to activate the reefer car functions. More importantly, DCS isn't required at all to operate the Coors Light Silver Bullet set. However, by uploading version 3.11, DCS users will be able to open the reefer car doors, close the doors and simulate a Coors Light delivery using softkeys S!, S2 and S3 on the DCS remote.

Once loaded into your DCS remote, software version 3.11 will display new acronyms for softkeys S1, S2 and S3 when and only when a Silver Bullet set is an active engine. S1 will read CDS (for Coors Delivery Stop), S2 will read CDO (for Coors Door Open) and S3 will read CDC (for Coors Door Close).
Pressing CDS will activate the smoke unit in the reefer cars, followed by the doors opening, followed by the doors closing. There is about a five second pause between each step to allow the smoke unit to heat up so that smoke (er, frost) can flow out of the cars while the door(s) are opening and closing. The normal sound effects of the doors clunking open and close and the sound of the cold frosted air escaping will be heard whenever CDS is activated. This feature will typically be used when the operator simply desires to stop his or her set at a specific location to quickly simulate the operating cars' features.
Pressing S2 (CDO) will simply open the door(s) and is primarly used when the operator needs to fill the smoke unit up with fluid. The car's LEDs will flash and smoke (er, frost) will be active.
Pressing S3 (CDC) will close the door(s) and turn off the smoke unit.

It isn't necessary to stop the train to activate the softkey features. These can be activated when the train is running or even when the cars are not coupled to the locomotive.
