Overview

No tinplate layout is complete without air travel for its citizens. The No. 55 Remote Control Airplane and No. 49 Airport, originally cataloged from 1937 - 1939, provide a unique solution that takes your eyes up and above the bustling rail yards and mainlines.

A self-powered airplane circles the airport below while you control its height, steering the plane through climbs and dives with two remote-control joysticks. Attached to a metal pylon, the airplane receives its power from a built-in power supply hidden inside the pylon. Plug it in, grab the joysticks, and you're off and flying.

Few of the original No. 55 Airplanes survived the bumps and crashes from landings. Consequently, finding an original in good or excellent condition is a rare experience, making this unique reproduction a great choice for most tinplate enthusiasts.
