Overview
In 1928, Lionel and American Flyer took over the bankrupt Ives Manufacturing Company. By the end of the decade, Lionel had assumed sole ownership and the famous Ives factory in Bridgeport, CT. lay silent. But in those dark, early years of the Depression, Lionel kept the Ives name alive with Lionel products sold with Ives nameplates, most likely as a way to clear out excess stock. One of the last Ives engines made was the 1770E steamer, in actuality a Lionel 390E with Ives nameplates. Cataloged for only one year, 1932 - the last year the Ives name appeared on a new toy - the 1770E was offered with a variety of passenger cars, apparently in order to move whatever stock was on hand.
New for 2007, M.T.H. introduces this replica of the last steam engine to bear an Ives nameplate. We offer this historic steamer with a 1930s-style open-frame Bild-a-Loco motor and electronic reverse, or with modern Proto-Sound 2.0 electronics with sound, cruise control, and puffing smoke.
