The Espee, as it was often called, was known for innovation and larger-than-life projects, from some of the earliest shipments of California fruit to the rest of the nation, to its Daylight passenger trains along the Pacific coastline and its crossings of some of our country’s toughest mountain ranges.

Long before FedEx existed, it provided overnight business deliveries between San Francisco and Los Angeles, carrying everything from groceries to replacement car engines.
