Overview

The 3243 S-Type locomotive was the Ives Company's top quality locomotive for most of the 1920s. It featured a 4-4-4 wheel arrangement and came with a choice of hand-reverse or automatic-sequence-reverse versions. Although it was originally offered for sale in several attention-getting colors, including the orange we offer here, white was not among them. The special white 3243s were display pieces that were not intended for retail sale. However, some of the white trains found their way into enterprising consumers' hands. Fans sometimes referred wrongly to the white 3243 set with matching cars as the "Phoebe Snow" train, though there is no indication that Ives themselves ever intended or recognized this name.

M.T.H. proudly reproduces this fine engine in its 3243R automatic-reverse-sequence traditional version or with contemporary equipment. We offer the engine and matching passenger cars in two of the striking paint schemes that make tinplate trains so special: white with gold lettering and window frames, and a bright yellow-orange with black trim. Either paint scheme will bring a flash of brilliance to a Standard Gauge layout.

We pair the 3243R electric engines with our beautiful reproductions of three matching Ives 180-series passenger cars to recreate a set anyone will envy.
