Overview
In 1928-30, the Ives Company made a distinctive Standard Gauge 3245 electric engine. The "St. Paul Type" engine came with two different engine body styles. The original 1928 version used the 13-1/2"-long 3237 body on a low-riding three-part chassis designed to match new cars. M.T.H. models the 1930 long-body "Olympian" version, with an 18" black cab mounted on an orange three-part chassis similar to the one used for the original short version. Unlike the 1929 long-body 3245 engine, the 1930 version has brass trim. The 4-4-4 electric engine was originally available in manual reverse and automatic-sequence-reverse versions. Tinplate's signature shiny enamel finish handsomely covers the center-cab unit and its long, rounded hoods, making for a beautiful engine. The matching passenger cars, of stamped steel painted in beautiful black and orange baked enamel, work with the 3245 engine to comprise a distinguished Olympian set that will add a touch of class to any Standard Gauge layout.
