New York Central O Gauge Tinplate 260E Steam R-T-R Freight Train Set w/Proto-Sound 2.0

Like its standard gauge cousins on the previous pages, this O gauge New York Central steam set embodies the gleaming sheet metal beauty of the tinplate era. The original 260E locomotive, introduced by Lionelr in 1936, represented the last hurrah of tinplate. Within a few years, most toy trains would be far more realistic - if less charming - plastic and die-cast models of real-life trains.

While it harks back to the decades before World War II, this tinplate freight set runs on the same O gauge RealTrax as every RailKing model. And while its exterior is pure 1930s, thanks to Proto-Sound 2.0 electronics our 260E steamer delivers smoother operation than any original tinplate locomotive, as well as huge plumes of puffing smoke - timed to the driver's revolutions - and a clanging bell and wailing whistle guaranteed to delight children of all ages. Our replica of the 260E is outfitted with an all-new "Latch-Type" Proto-Coupler that can be remotely activated by the transformer to uncouple from its trailing three freight cars, each decorated with bright metal trim and colorful baked enamel paint.
